Is it odd that the only two movies I've seen with Julia Roberts in them, I chose to see because of the directors?

Seriously, I watched "My Best Friend's Wedding" because I loved P. J. Hogan's direction of "Peter Pan," and just finished "Notting Hill" on the strength of Roger Michell's understated direction of "Persuasion."  I greatly enjoyed both.  Another odd note - I saw "Hitch" because I liked "Ever After," both directed by Andy Tennant.  And I like to avoid Speilberg films.  On principle.

On a plus note, I will watch movies, no matter how dumb (i.e. "Underworld," "The Aviator," "Serendipity") for Kate Beckinsale (and she has been in good stuff, like "Emma" and "Much Ado About Nothing").

And anything with Kenneth Branagh or Jeremy Brett is my friend.

Though I will go on record by saying that Nathan Fillion, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Ron Glass, and Morena Baccarin (the cast of "Firefly" and "Serenity") are some of the most phenomenal actors I've ever seen - and they have never been stars.

Oh, and soundtracks are fun - especially James Newton Howard ("Signs," "Peter Pan").  Let's see, are there any writers I would see a movie for - not necessarily.  But Emma Thompson is good, as is Michael Goldenberg, Akiva Goldman, and Joss Whedon.  Haven't seen a movie for a writer yet, but I'm working on it.

And "Notting Hill" was very sweet.

Ian is back!

Woohoo!

And no, it isn't strange that you wanted to see certain movies on account of the director.  The director is the one who weilds most of the power, so it makes sense that if you like his work, you'll want to experience more of his stuff.

Yay!  Ian posts again!  And there are freaky basketballs on his site, too...

I like Jeremy Brett greatly; he'd be on my "five best actors" list... probably along with Cary Ewles, Denzel Washington, Sean Connery, and Jeremy Northam.  But I haven't seen a ton of things other than his Sherlock Holmes stuff.  And the worse thing with favorite actors is when you cannot see something with them in it because it's inappropriate.  It makes me sad when the men I consider some of the best actors do that.

I have never wanted to see a movie for a director other than Shyamalan.  Speaking of which, I cannot wait for Lady in the Water.  Maybe if I paid more attention to directors, I would.  I do want to see The Net, Lara Croft, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen mainly for actors and actresses, though.

Okay, and I'll admit it.  I also want to see League because it takes place in the "Victorian" era and has a character named Dorian Grey...

Ian, I am digging the flaming basketballs. But I must ask, why?

Yup I've read Cold Comfort Farm.  I thought it was awesome and very funny.  BTW "My Best Friend's Wedding" has to be one my least favorite movies of all time, perhaps falling into second place following "Kate and Leopold"

This is just to say "hey." Well, and to complain cuz you've never ever commented on my facebook or xanga or subscribed to my xanga . . . not that my xanga is very interesting, and not that you have to read it, and not that you have a lot of time, but I think I deserve a token something, whether it's a xanga comment, xanga subscription, facebook comment, whatever . . .

I am always shocked (in the very most pleasent of ways) to find male Jane Austen fans. May your rare breed be very fruitful and multiply.

Much Ado About Nothing is probably my favorite play, and one of my favorite movies ever. Notting Hill is very sweet... I love Hugh Grant's way of being simultaneously charming and awkward! Kenneth Branagh is very near the top of my all-time favorite actors; Emma Thompson holds a similar position in actresses. I can't say I've seen much Kate Beckinsale other than The Aviator (I didn't like it either ) so can't really give much opinion there, though I thought she was a very sweet and lovely Hero. James Newton Howard scored King Kong, correct? I'm always amazed at how very nice that particular score was, considering his time crunch (Howard Shore and Peter Jackson having gone seperate ways for some reason...which is a shame, since Lord of the Rings would seem to show that their talents work well together).

Err...anyway. Finished blogging on your blog now. See you around Bethlehem in a few years!

Behold the first comment on Ian's site since six weeks ago!!!

Not like he'll ever see it.

He never looks at his xanga anymore.

Which is sad.

I guess we could write whatever we wanted, though.

And he'd never have any idea that we were doing it.

We could even write about him.

Or insult Jane Austen.

Or Kate Beckinsale.

Or, even worse, insult Kate Beckinsale's acting in Jane Austen movies.

He'd never know.

And we could laugh.

A lot.

Or not.
